Google Buzz Ignores Privacy

A week ago, Google launched the Buzz social networking service as a part of Gmail. Almost immediately, many people complained as their entire Gmail contacts were published unknowingly and without permission. The contacts were used to create contact points for prospective Buzz users.

While Google made changes within a few days to the Buzz service to let you select the contacts for your network, they still have not made the Buzz service an option. If you don’t want to use it, it still is activated and you must subsequently disable it if you choose not to use it.

Many people enjoy the use of Gmail and its related services, however most don’t realize Google is using the information stored on their servers for targeted advertising. That’s the price you’re paying for using the service for without charge. In a business environment, it may be unacceptable to have a third party view potentially confidential information.
